Registered Nurse - Dementia Advice Nurse

Reporting to a Clinical Manager, the Dementia Advice Nurse provides specialized episodic dementia related clinical advice and support to care partners in community settings through telephone interactions. The nurse responds to calls received through multiple pathways, including referrals and live transfers from Health Link staff, direct calls to the Dementia Advice Line (DAL) via 811, as well as self referrals through Insite. Using evidence based decision support tools, evidence informed practice and service navigation resources, the Dementia Advice Nurse assesses, triages, and provides clear recommendations on when and where to access further health or medical services. The role involves close collaboration with multidisciplinary teams, including geriatric programs, Health Links Addiction and Mental Health line and other community partners, to enhance care and connect callers with appropriate resources. In addition, the Dementia Advice Nurse offers supportive listening, short term psychosocial support, and episodic follow up for care partners of persons living with dementia, helping ensure continuity of care and meaningful support throughout the dementia journey. The role emphasizes compassionate, person centered care, strong communication, interdisciplinary collaboration, and advocacy to enhance quality of life, reduce caregiver distress, and support continuity of care throughout the dementia journey.

As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of PCA. PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit holders will be paid $40.76 to $55.79 per hour. Upon obtaining a full practice permit, the rate of pay will be adjusted to the applicable Registered Nurse rate in accordance with UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii), as applicable.

Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP). Additional Required Qualifications:The successful candidate will have a minimum 5 years experience providing care of senior’s living with dementia in a clinical practice setting or memory care settings with 2 of those years being within the last 3 years. 1 year experience in a call center setting performing telephone assessments. The successful candidate will be able to conduct telephone interviews and complete real time electronic clinical documentation for extended periods, while effectively multitasking in a fast paced environment. Recent experience within the past 1–2 years using a variety of computer programs, including Genesys, Connect Care, SharePoint, and Microsoft Teams, is required, along with demonstrated competency in completing clinical documentation on web based applications in a supported environment. The role requires exceptional verbal and written communication skills, a demonstrated empathetic disposition, and strong attention to detail. The candidate must exhibit excellent time management and prioritization skills, be action oriented and self directed, and work effectively both independently and as part of a team, demonstrating quick problem solving abilities. Comfort working in a sedentary environment for shifts of up to 7.75 hours is required. A minimum typing speed of 35 words per minute and intermediate computer navigation skills are essential.
Preferred Qualifications:Graduate of a recognized school of nursing with Baccalaureate degree in nursing is preferred, as well as certification in Gerontology through Canadian Nurses Association. Demonstrate high standards of professionalism and diligence with the ability to work in a challenging and constantly changing environment. Exhibits effective interpersonal skills with the ability to maintain collaborative working relationships within the interdisciplinary team.
