Your Opportunity:

The Registered Nurse - Public Health Nurse (PHN) is a key position working in partnership within a multidisciplinary team. The PHN partners with community stakeholders to provide integrated, strength based, family centered care in various settings. Nursing services include: provision of universal Public Health services including antenatal/prenatal care; routine postnatal care; health assessment, counseling, screening, immunization; follow up; & referral, linkage, advocacy, consultation, & teaching as they relate to preschool and school aged children, families, adults and seniors. The PHN is required to pack, lift, push, pull, move, and transport heavy and/or awkward supplies weighing up to 31 lbs. to various work sites. Service delivery may require walking 3-4 blocks and climbing 3-4 flights of stairs, awkward and repetitive movements, sitting, standing, and/or bending for long periods of time. This position requires travel within urban and rural communities during work hours. This position requires the successful candidate to follow appropriate hand hygiene techniques including the regular use of alcohol based hand sanitizer and antibacterial soap. The PHN’s practice in this position will focus primarily as a PHN Healthy Young Families Program. Experience working with teens, diverse cultures, and marginalized populations and knowledge, understanding and demonstrated use of the social determinants of health and health promotion. PHN is expected to respond with appropriate urgent/emergent interventions and seek medical/emergency help for patients as needed. Experience working with an EMR (ex. Connect Care). Important notice – Woodcroft Community Health Centre Team currently operating out of East Edmonton Health Centre until their new site is ready in 2027.

Description:

As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of PCA. PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit holders will be paid $40.76 to $55.79 per hour. Upon obtaining a full practice permit, the rate of pay will be adjusted to the applicable Registered Nurse rate in accordance with UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii), as applicable.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).

Additional Required Qualifications:

Baccalaureate degree in Nursing (BN), Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) or Bachelor of Nursing is required. Ability to be self-directed and to exercise independent nursing judgment. Strong interpersonal skills. Experience in interdisciplinary teamwork. Strong written and oral communication skills. Strong analytical, critical thinking, decision making, and organizational skills. Working knowledge of computer applications including basic word processing, email, and data entry required. Recent experience (within the past two years) working with Connect Care, or an electronic medical record is required. Recent experience (within the past two years) working in the Healthy Young Families program (both Healthy Beginnings and Well Child Clinic) required. Must be able to perform within established program parameters. Must be able to work in a loud, chaotic, busy environment. Ability to walk 3-4 blocks at a time while carrying, pushing, pulling 31 lbs. of equipment, climb 3-4 flights of stairs while carrying 31 lbs. of equipment, carry out awkward and repetitive movements for an entire 8-hour shift, sitting, standing, reaching and/or bending for long periods of time. Securing infants/toddlers that weighs up to 50 lbs. The PHN will be required to document in EMR continuously throughout the day. Be able to comply with appropriate hand hygiene techniques, including regular use of alcohol-based hand sanitizer and antibacterial soap.

Preferred Qualifications:

Canadian Nurses Association Certification in Community Health Nursing an asset; International Board of Lactation Consultants Certification an asset. Recent experience in Community or Public Health Nursing in the past two years. Experience working with teens, diverse cultures, and marginalized populations and knowledge, understanding and demonstrated use of the social determinants of health and health promotion is preferred. Recent experience working Office Nurse and MAR Clinics is an asset.
