Your Opportunity:

We are looking for a skilled and dedicated Registered Nurse (RN) to join Primary Care Alberta (PCA) FAST (Facilitated Access to Specialized Treatment) provincial central referral intake program. Reporting to the Manager, the central intake RN will work closely with referring providers, specialists and MOAs to efficiently process patient referrals for specialist consultations – from receipt in the FAST central access office to appointment notification. The RN will collaborate with a team of RNs and Administrative Support staff to receive, screen, and assign referrals to the appropriate specialists. Additionally, the RN will ensure that standard workflows are followed to promote best practices, optimize processing times, and guarantee timely referral distribution to specialist offices with clear communication to all involved providers. The role also involves participation in process and quality improvement initiatives at the program, department, and zone levels.

Description:

As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of PCA. PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit holders will be paid $40.76 to $55.79 per hour. Upon obtaining a full practice permit, the rate of pay will be adjusted to the applicable Registered Nurse rate in accordance with UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii), as applicable.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP). If you have not practiced as a Registered Nurse within the last five (5) years, completion of the following free courses is required: CRNA Medication Management - Chapters 1 - 4 (https://connect.nurses.ab.ca/home/%2Flearning-and-development%2Flearning-modules%2F) and the NextGenU Health Assessment Resources Certification (https://courses.nextgenu.org/course/view.php?id=271#section-0)

Additional Required Qualifications:

A minimum of 3 years’ recent (within the last five years) related experience in either a central referral intake program, or acute care nursing in a surgical procedure setting or surgical unit is required. Must have knowledge of surgical specialties, a basic understanding of referrals, primary care, and specialty care services. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook and Word is essential. A minimum typing speed of 35 WPM is required. Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate with healthcare professionals, physicians, and patients. Must possess problem-solving, decision-making, and attention to detail skills. Experience in conflict management and the ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and adapt to change while providing innovative solutions. Proven ability to handle high-stress situations and complex issues. Ability to perform effectively in a dynamic and busy multi-tasking environment with frequent interruptions, demands and changing workloads. Excellent customer service skills, including active listening. Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team. Ability to manage confidential information with discretion and in compliance with privacy legislation (e.g., HIA). Physical demands of the job include sitting for extended periods and using repetitive motions.

Preferred Qualifications:

Proficiency in Adobe, Excel, Connect Care, and Alberta Netcare is considered an asset. Experience with Rightfax and Genesys. Experience with change management. Recent experience in a central intake setting. Experience with reviewing data and interpreting reporting outcomes. Familiarity with referral processing protocols and prioritization frameworks. Experience supporting process improvement initiatives in healthcare settings. Experience with EMRs and digital workflow platform.
