Registered Nurse
Your Opportunity:
Registered Nurses (RNs) working in the School Health Team are required to practice with a high level of autonomy in community settings with the ability to be self-directed and exercise independent nursing judgement. The role is to promote, protect and preserve the health of individuals, families, groups, communities, and populations in a variety of settings in an ongoing or episodic process. This position includes working with school populations, community partners, and other health professionals supporting the school age population. Working in collaboration within the multidisciplinary team, RNs in the School Health Team will support the School Immunization Program delivery and follow up in both the clinic and school settings; client and guardian phone calls; client advocacy; fostering appropriate use of the health care system; facilitating cooperation and coordination amongst the many health and social service agencies; collection and recording of client based data, involvement in nursing or other health research, quality improvement and safety and risk management.
Description:
As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of PCA. PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit Holders shall be paid $39.58/hour - $54.16/hour. Upon being entered into the register of Registered Nurses, the rate of pay shall be adjusted to the rate of pay applicable to a Registered Nurse in accordance with PCA/UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii) as applicable.

Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP). If you have not practiced as a Registered Nurse within the last five (5) years, completion of the following free courses is required: CRNA Medication Management - Chapters 1 - 4 (https://connect.nurses.ab.ca/home/%2Flearning-and-development%2Flearning-modules%2F) and the NextGenU Health Assessment Resources Certification (https://courses.nextgenu.org/course/view.php?id=271#section-0)
Additional Required Qualifications:Comfortable to drive in all-weather conditions. Lift/carry/pull supplies up to a minimum of 15 kgs. Ability to raise arms to shoulder height, in a repetitive movement for immunization and have good eye/hand dexterity. Ability to bend, twist, kneel and respond safely and quickly to a variety of emergency situations. Ability to walk long distances and climb stairs, while carrying supplies. Independently perform the skills of a certified, BLS provider. Sit, stand for a minimum of 30 minutes. Work within outreach sites that have no consistent ergonomic setup. Effective and efficient time management. Must have the ability to multitask, adapt easily to changing work assignments and is able to work and collaborate within a team environment. Communicate effectively with diverse clients from various cultures, languages, ages, and socioeconomic backgrounds. Proficient computer and keyboarding skills. Demonstrate culturally competent, client and family centered care. Conduct contemporaneous electronic documentation at the point of care. Self-directed and able to exercise critical thinking and independent nursing judgment in fast paced and stressful environment.
Preferred Qualifications:At least 1 year of full-time experience working as a RN in Public Health with providing provincially funded immunizations based on routine/non-routine schedules as outlined in the Immunization Provincial Standards Manual. School Health immunization experience within the last 5 years. Skills and experience relevant to nursing practice in a community setting will be considered. Computer literacy in programs such as: Microsoft Office Word, Excel, Outlook, MS Teams, PowerPoint, CC and SharePoint.
