Completion of an accredited practical nurse education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
Additional Required Qualifications:Minimum three years of recent clinical knowledge and experience in a variety of nursing specialties including, but not limited to: acute care, primary care, chronic disease management especially diabetes, palliative care, reproductive and sexual health, mental health and addictions, pediatrics and/or rural nursing. Experience working in an Indigenous community or health environment. Must possess a sound understanding of Indigenous Peoples and the determinants of health. Demonstrated excellent assessment, organizational and patient care skills required. Ability to communicate findings in a concise and accurate manner; Strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills. Depth & breadth of nursing knowledge & complex reasoning reflective of level of education. Strong communication skills with effective negotiation & conflict resolution skills to improve interprofessional patient/community-centered care. Compassionate & caring attitude; conveying respect & dignity of all persons. Experience with working with family physicians and specialists. Must have knowledge of computer programs/systems such as Connect Care, Microsoft Office and Netcare. Must be able to meet the physical demands of the job, including but not limited to standing, bending, walking; pushing and pulling equipment; and must be able to assist in transporting, lifting and positioning of patients. Preferred Qualifications:Knowledge of and sensitivity around the culture, health issues, treaty rights, jurisdictional issues, historical impact of the urban and rural Indigenous people/communities in Alberta. Ability to speak or understand an Indigenous language (i.e., Cree, Dene). Group facilitation skills and experience would be an asset.
