Licensed Practical Nurse
Your Opportunity:
The Public Health (PH) Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) is a member of the Edmonton Zone PH team that provides integrated, strength based, family centered public healthcare services. The School Health (SH) program and includes comprehensive immunization, health promotion and harm reduction approaches to school health services that build healthy school communities. As an LPN in this setting, you recognize that a school communities health is linked with the health of individual students, staff, their families, and neighborhoods. You support the empowerment of the entire school population to improve overall health status including the delivery of immunizations to school aged children. In partnership with the multi-disciplinary team, you implement and evaluate the annual immunization service delivery in school settings. You will incorporate data to improve overall school health. The LPN will also support and participate in the execution of SH action plans that are developed by the multi-disciplinary team, school principals, staff, and students to address priority health issues including immunization. T his position requires: Ability to carry up to 25 lbs. of equipment; pack, push, pull, and transport heavy and/or awkward supplies; walk 3-4 blocks, climb 3-4 flights of stairs to deliver services; carry out awkward and repetitive movements for an entire 7.75-hour shift, including sitting, standing, and/or bending for long periods of time Ability to document in an electronic medical record continuously throughout the shift Ability to be self-directed and to exercise independent nursing judgment within scope of practice Strong analytical, critical thinking, decision-making, and organizational skills Expertise in delivering educational presentations (public speaking) to adults and school aged children

You will be guided by your education, experience, demonstrated skill level and PCA policies and procedures. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of PCA.

Completion of an accredited practical nurse education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
Additional Required Qualifications:Current Immunization certificate is required if graduated prior to June 2022 Ability to work in a loud, chaotic, busy environment with school aged children and families Compliance with appropriate hand hygiene techniques, including regular use of alcohol-based hand sanitizer and antibacterial soap. Working knowledge of computer applications including basic word processing, email, and data entry required Duties must be completed independently within scope of practice but also interdependent within a larger multidisciplinary team. Previous experience working with diverse communities, groups and/or organizations (i.e., ethno-cultural, equity-setting, racialized, faith-based, LGBTQ2S+, vulnerable, marginalized, persons with disabilities, and persons across all age groups, etc.). Ability to be self-directed and to exercise independent nursing judgment within scope of practice. Strong interpersonal skills Experience in interdisciplinary teamwork Strong written and oral communication skills trong analytical, critical thinking, decision-making, and organizational skill Expertise in delivering educational presentations (public speaking) to adults and school aged children. Ability to perform other nursing duties to support programs and services within Edmonton Zone Public Health as required. Recent experience (within the past two years) working with school age children and their families required.
